Overview
A containerization principle for packaging the Guardrails API server into Docker images for production deployment.
Description
Container Deployment packages the Guardrails API server, its configuration, and all dependencies into a Docker image that can be deployed to any container orchestration platform (Kubernetes, ECS, Cloud Run, etc.). The deployment supports both Flask (gunicorn) and FastAPI (uvicorn) entrypoints, with the config.py mounted or copied into the container.
This enables reproducible, scalable production deployments with standard container tooling.
Usage
Build a Docker image with the Guardrails server, config file, and required validators pre-installed. Deploy to container orchestration platforms for production use.
Theoretical Basis
The containerization pattern:
- Base Image: Python image with guardrails-ai[api] installed
- Config Copy: Copy config.py defining Guards into the container
- Validator Install: Pre-install all required Hub validators during build
- Entrypoint: Choose gunicorn (Flask) or uvicorn (FastAPI) entrypoint
- Runtime: Environment variables for API keys and configuration
